The attraction potential of answering “WHY”

If you could more deeply connect with your potential customers so they would not only buy from you but become loyal repeat customers, what would you give in exchange? Would you be willing to ask “Why”? Why should customers buy from you?

Simon Sinek in his TEDx Puget Sound talk, “How Great Leaders Inspire Action”, points out that most companies message their products backward. In what Simon calls the “Golden Circle”, he explains how great people influence others. You want to influence your potential customers to buy from you and then remain loyal customers, right?

Here is the Golden Circle…

Golden Circle

Most people and companies know what they do. Some people also know how they do it. A few also know why they do what they do. Simon isn’t talking about profit as your “why”, that he says is always a result. The “why” represents your purpose. Why do you do what you do? What makes you get out of bed in the morning and why should your potential customers care?

Most of us think from the outside in, from the obvious to the not-so-obvious. All inspired people and companies think and act from the inside out. They start with the question “why?”. Companies that inspire understand why they do what they do.

Do you know why you do what you do? Do your customers and potential customers know why you do what you do? If they don’t understand why you do what you do, you’re not inspiring them to use your products and or services.

Simon says that people don’t buy what you, do they buy why you do it. Stop and read that again. Now you have the key you need to attract the right customers! Yes, it’s simple, but simple things can be difficult to implement. Do you want your company to be average or great? Bland or inspiring? It’s your call, but you need to know why you do what you do before you can inspire your potential customers and attract them as loyal customers.

Think about this, the goal isn’t to do business with everybody that needs what you have. The goal is to do business with those who believe what you believe. That is powerful and will revolutionize you and your business if you implement it.

Discover the Golden Circle in Simon’s own words below and discover a couple of real-world historical examples of the Golden Circle in action. If you implement “why” it will change you and your business.

Take what you have learned and implement it in every area of your business. If you’d like more details, you can read Simon’s book “Start With Why“.
